Postseason baseball makes its return to Morgantown for only the third time in program history. West Virginia is set to play host to Wake Forest, Kentucky, and Binghamton for a double elimination regional on the Road to Omaha. West Virginia claimed a national top-16 seed, thanks in part to their dominant regular season performance, while Wake Forest enters as one of the most dangerous 2 seed’s in the entire tournament. Kentucky will look to make another postseason run after sneaking into the field, while Binghamton will look to boldly claim the underdog role after winning the America East tournament to punch their ticket.

WVU enters the regional with the most balanced roster, combining timely hitting with reliable pitching depth throughout the season. Wake Forest is no slouch though, bringing with them to Morgantown a highly explosive offense, winning 9 of 10 of their last regular season games. Kentucky’s experience in the SEC gives them sneaky upset potential, despite them just barely sneaking into the tournament at a 3 seed. Binghamton will take this underdog role and just run with it as far as they can.

With a Super Regional berth at stake, the Morgantown Regional has potential to be one of the more competitive pods in the NCAA Tournament this year. Home field advantage could factor in to play, Kendrick Family Ballpark is expected to be packed and rowdy with Mountaineer fans from beginning to end. Ultimately, in a double-elimination format where momentum can swing on a dime, overall pitching depth and better late game execution will be a major factor in who moves on.
