The West Virginia Mountaineers baseball took down the BYU Cougars baseball 7–4 on Thursday night in Morgantown, using a big early inning and timely power to secure the win.

West Virginia broke things open in the second, plating four runs on a mix of timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to jump out to an early lead. The Mountaineers added insurance in the sixth inning when Gavin Kelly delivered a two-run homer to extend the advantage to 7–1.

BYU showed life late, getting a solo home run from Ridge Erickson in the fifth and another from Easton Jones in the seventh, but couldn’t fully close the gap.

On the mound, Dawson Montesa earned the win with a strong outing, limiting BYU’s offense through seven innings. David Perez shut the door in the ninth to secure the victory.
